this is what i came home to today. a european mount elk head hanging in our stairwell. (please ignore the worlds ugliest wall paper) this thing is big, the skull is almost 18" long. my husband shot this thing last season. now i get to look at it every time i walk in the door. oh yeah.

  3. Ha! Years ago I was a real estate agent in Arkansas and every room of a condominium for sale was full of big game heads on every room. I mean the full heads stuffed, some even had the whole body, some with horns, etc. and it was a small condominium - and of course the upholstery was all leapord skin, etc. bear skin rugs, real ones. I felt sorry for all those animals, I don't mind if they are eaten, but just for sport makes me feel sad. I have had elk stew before though and it was quite tasty.

  4. Hi Linda, i would not have liked that condo at all! and yes we eat whatever my husband shoots. he's not a trophy hunter, just likes to put meat on the table. he does have a few 'trophys', but the animals just happened to be there when he was out hunting. right now the freezer is jam packed full of elk meat and venison. we haven't bought beef since moving here, i just cook all the game meat as if i was cooking beef for the most part and we actually prefer it. very lean. infact i'm saving the tails and some of the hides for a brush maker who has agreed to trade some brushes for the them. my husband hasn't brought home that bear he wants, honestly i hope he doesnt lol. bear doesn't sound too tasty to me, but i suppose we can make jerky or sausage w/ it. and yes, we had elk stew just a couple days ago and it is indeed quite tasty :)

  5. Bear meat is actually very good, very dense meat and very rich. I love wild game, once you eat that you don't want anything store bought ever again. Pheasant is one of my favorites.
